DOSSO KASSIMOU THE 5 TURNING POINTS FOR NEWARK
CITIZENS ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND ENGAGEMENT
•Engage district leaders, community block associations, religious institutions, local activists and key stake holders to come together through regular meeting sessions and discuss ways and road map to fix the socio-economic problems in the City.
•Establish a dialogue between the young people on “street corners” and the leadership through direct meetings, listening and data collecting information sessions in order to better assess the needs of the troubled youth and the youth crisis. Engage everybody to participate in the enhancement of the positive promotion of Newark’s quality of life.
EDUCATION AIMED TOWARDS EXCELLENCE
•Strengthen the school system, support local control and fight to bring back the after school programs. Enhance the curriculum, so that it is historically and culturally sensitive to the populations of Newark.
•Establish a program which will allow seniors to visit schools and speak about their life experiences to children, so that they may learn from past experiences and become inspired and self motivated.
•Integrate the youth beyond the borders of Newark and help them build competitive resumes through study abroad programs.
•Establish programs in the schools that will teach the children when their can go to college not ‘if’ and give them a way to save for the expense of higher education. Work with the local public housing Agencies to enhance the student assistance programs.
PUBLIC SAFETY IN THE HANDS OF THE COMMUNITY
•Encourage community policing and the hiring of more police officers to work together with the community and help secure the streets and the neighborhoods.
•Make sure that the street lights are working because the lacks of lights also contribute to mental stress and criminal activities on the streets.
•Work with Public local Housing Agencies to reinstate the presence of private security on the various housing project sites.
